Bio

Some songs, albums, and live performances are simply timeless. Since their early roots in 1988, playing house parties at Louisiana State University, BETTER THAN EZRA have carved out a lasting place in modern rock. The New Orleans quartet, founded by Kevin Griffin (lead vocals, guitar, piano) and Tom Drummond (bass, backing vocals), became known for their instantly hummable melodies, unshakable guitar riffs, and confessional lyrics that continue to resonate across generations. From their 1995 No. 1 hit “Good” to Taylor Swift’s 2010 cover of the Better Than Ezra classic “Breathless,” the band’s influence has remained undeniable. In 2025, Better Than Ezra celebrated 30 years of their breakthrough debut album, Deluxe, with a sold-out hometown show at the Fillmore New Orleans—a full-circle moment honoring the record that helped define alternative rock in the ’90s, with songs including “Good,” “In the Blood,” and “Rosealia.” Named one of Billboard’s “100 Greatest Alternative Artists of All Time,” and with a legacy that even includes inspiring a classic Saturday Night Live sketch, Better Than Ezra released their tenth studio album, Super Magick, in 2024, featuring songs like “Live A Little” and “Grateful.” That legacy was also explored in a recent Rolling Stone essay by Kevin Griffin, who reflected on the band’s journey and the music that shaped them, including a memorable story about meeting Rush as teenagers. Today, Better Than Ezra continue to headline tours and make major festival appearances, including Bourbon & Beyond and Oceans Calling in 2026, proving that their music and live performances remain as vital as ever.
