Beyond selling 10 million records, scoring four Top 10 hits, surpassing one billion streams, and selling millions of concert tickets, Sugar Ray—co-founded by Mark McGrath (vocals) and Rodney Sheppard (lead guitar)—embody the endless summer of popular music and culture. How many artists can still pack amphitheaters a generation after their debut? How many acts can claim to have shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, KISS, and the Sex Pistols, collaborated with Run-DMC, and been interpolated by Post Malone? Just Sugar Ray. Their 1994 debut, Lemonade and Brownies, took the band around the world and earned cult-classic status for its frenetic, unpredictable hybrid of sounds. It set the stage for Floored in 1997. The album’s immortal lead single, “Fly” featuring Super Cat, transformed Sugar Ray into household names. More than two decades later, Post Malone interpolated “Fly” on “Sugar Wraith,” from his triple-platinum album beerbongs & bentleys. Helmed by GRAMMY® Award-winning producer David Kahne (Sublime, Paul McCartney, The Strokes), Floored earned Sugar Ray their first gold certification and eventually went double platinum. Two years later, 14:59 debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200, went triple platinum, and delivered “Someday,” “Falls Apart,” and their second No. 1 hit, “Every Morning.” In 2001, Sugar Ray returned to the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 at No. 6 with their self-titled album, led by the hit “When It’s Over.” The album earned another platinum certification and further cemented the band’s place in pop-rock history. Enjoying a major renaissance, Sugar Ray headlined the Under the Sun Tour from 2013–2015. In 2019, they signed with BMG and released their seventh full-length album, Lil Yachty. The band continued to earn major media recognition, with features in Rolling Stone and Billboard, while NPR noted that the Newport Beach natives had returned to their signature uplifting, airy rock sound. It was another chapter in a career defined by longevity, hits, and an unmistakable sense of fun. No matter how much everything changes, we’ve got Sugar Ray forever.
