Offering a further demonstration for their aptitude in capturing rock'n'roll lightning in a bottle, Goodbye June have released a new video for their track “Three Chords”, taken from the upcoming album 'See Where The Night Goes'. You can watch it here.
Featuring a slick yet electrifying performance, the video was shot on location in Wartrace, Tennessee at the farm of fellow contemporary rocker Josh Katz (Badflower), who also helped out on set on the day. The video contrasts the warm, rootsy aesthetic of Katz's barn with an extravagantly lit stage - whichGoodbye June guitarist Tyler Baker and drummer Kevin Smith worked on building for three days prior to the shoot - and the band's signature sensational styling, as seen on the cover of 'See Where The Night Goes'.
As such, “Three Chords”, directed by Jordan Wolfbauer (Badflower, Joyous Wolf) gifts viewers with both sides of Goodbye June: the gritty voltage their rock'n'roll brings to the world's stage, combined with the familial roots that they so strongly hold in country living, having grown up together as cousins hanging out in the creeks of West Tennessee and Southern Indiana. Vocalist Landon Milbourn even used his Grandpa Wilbur's vintage microphone throughout the shoot, a sentimental statement reflective of the man so influential in the band's musical upbringing that the song "Three Chords" is largely written about him and his lasting impact on the trio of cousins.
The video for “Three Chords” takes its inspiration from a number of illustrious sources:
“We were trying to channel Wes Anderson and Martin Scorsese films– there's something unique about holding the camera frame a little longer than 'normal' in order to capture the setting, clothes and energy of the performance,” the band explain.
“We asked ourselves what some of our favourite performance videos were. [Martin Scorsese's] “The Last Waltz” and The Rolling Stones' “Sympathy for the Devil” were unanimous. The cuts and holds on these performance videos let the viewer really feel the performance. We were inspired by that and used warm, or "vintage", lighting to supplement this,” they continue.
'See Where The Night Goes' is out 18th February 2022 and is available for pre-order worldwide on signed, limited edition coloured vinyl, black vinyl andCD at earache.com/goodbyejune.
